- My Perfect Laptop
By savvyone – Nov 20, 2011 – HPI am a web developer replacing a desktop workstation, so needed a good 17.3″ screen plus a processor that can handle whatever Adobe and emerging web technologies throws at me in the next two years. Expandable RAM (it can go to 16) along with ports for device connectivity are all key for me. Bluetooth built in – strong wifi… and needless to say, my screen and keyboard are a quality of life issue
I shopped extensively and researched my perfect laptop. I found an HP dv7 that met 90% of my criteria at Best Buy. I fell in love with the features, the keyboard feel and the styling; simple, clean sophistication.I ordered a dv7-6179us from hpdirect to get the Raedon graphics card vs the default Intel integrated one. I also wanted the 9 cell battery (10+ hrs is a work day on the road!). I didn’t see where I needed the non-glare screen with super high resolution.I am more impressed now that I’m working on it.VERY quick and clean initial startup to get going. The LED screen is much more “color true” than the LCD I used before. The machine is fast even under heavy processor load. The fan has come on only a few times, and less heat than my 2 yr old Sony Vaio. The sound is great and i even appreciated not having to clean out a bunch of software. Everything you really need is loaded, stuff you won’t need isn’t!Intelligent design is apparent in too many areas to mention, but two are the battery design tilting the laptop comfortably and another one is the recovery drive.
